Privacy Policy

SMSGuard respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app may access, use, store, process, and, when you choose to use Google Drive backup, transfer to your personal Google Drive account.

SMSGuard is a messaging and spam protection application. The app uses certain permissions and information only to provide messaging, filtering, blocking, contact display, dual SIM, backup and restore, notification, premium, and security features.

Important: SMSGuard uses SMS/MMS message content, sender and recipient phone numbers, and contact information only for the app's messaging, protection, backup, and restore features. SMSGuard does not use this information for advertising or marketing purposes.

1. SMS and MMS Messages

SMSGuard may access SMS and MMS messages on your device to provide its core messaging features.

This may include:

Spam detection, number filtering, keyword filtering, and message management are processed locally on your device.

SMSGuard does not upload SMS/MMS message content to SMSGuard-owned servers or Firebase backend services for community spam reporting, spam analysis, advertising, or marketing.

If you explicitly choose to create a Google Drive backup, selected SMS/MMS-related backup data may be uploaded to the private app-specific data area of your own Google Drive account as described in the Google Drive Backup and Restore section below.

2. Phone Numbers

SMSGuard may access and use sender and recipient phone numbers found in SMS/MMS conversations on your device.

This includes phone numbers found in regular, blocked, spam, sent, and received conversations.

Phone number information may be used for:

SMSGuard does not upload sender or recipient phone numbers to SMSGuard-owned servers or Firebase backend services for community spam reporting, spam analysis, advertising, or marketing.

If you choose Google Drive backup, phone numbers contained in the selected backup data may be included in the backup stored in your personal Google Drive app-specific data area.

3. Contacts

If you grant contact permission, SMSGuard may access contacts stored on your device.

Contacts are used to match phone numbers with saved contact names and display those names in conversations, message lists, recipient selection screens, and notifications.

SMSGuard does not upload your contact list to SMSGuard-owned servers or Firebase backend services for spam analysis, advertising, or marketing.

Contact information is used only for contact matching and messaging-related features.

SMSGuard does not automatically upload your complete device contact list as part of Google Drive backup.

4. Dual SIM and Phone State Information

On supported devices, SMSGuard may access phone state or SIM subscription information to provide dual SIM messaging features.

These spam protection features are processed locally on the user's device.

SMSGuard does not operate a community spam-reporting system and does not upload sender phone numbers or SMS/MMS message content to SMSGuard-owned servers or Firebase backend services for community spam reporting or spam analysis.

Blocked messages and filtering rules may be included in a Google Drive backup only when the user chooses to create such a backup.

6. Google Drive Backup and Restore

SMSGuard provides an optional Google Drive backup and restore feature.

Google Drive backup and restore are initiated by the user and require authorization through the user's Google account.

SMSGuard requests access to the following Google Drive scope:

This permission allows SMSGuard to store and retrieve its own backup files in the private app-specific data area of the user's Google Drive account.

SMSGuard does not request general access to browse or manage the user's other Google Drive files.

SMSGuard cannot use this permission to browse files outside its own app-specific data area.

Depending on the backup options and app version, a backup may contain information such as:

Google Drive backups are stored in the user's own Google Drive app-specific data area and are not stored on SMSGuard-owned servers.

SMSGuard does not use Google Drive backup data for advertising, marketing, profiling, community spam reporting, or unrelated analytics.

Google processes Google account authorization and Google Drive services according to Google's own privacy policies and terms.

Uninstalling SMSGuard or clearing the app's local data does not necessarily delete an existing Google Drive backup. Backup data stored in Google Drive may remain in the user's Google account until it is removed using available Google Drive or Google account controls, or an applicable deletion feature provided by the app.

7. Device Identifiers and Technical Information

SMSGuard uses third-party services, including Google services such as:

Depending on the service and device configuration, these services may process technical information such as device identifiers, advertising identifiers, diagnostics, analytics information, purchase-related information, authentication information, fraud-prevention information, and security or integrity signals.

These services process such information according to their respective privacy policies.

The free version of SMSGuard may use Google AdMob to display advertisements.

SMSGuard does not provide SMS/MMS message content, sender or recipient phone numbers, contact lists, or Google Drive backup contents to Google AdMob for advertising targeting.

If the user chooses Google Drive backup, selected backup data is transferred to and stored in the private app-specific data area of the user's Google Drive account.

Local backup files created by the user may also contain selected messaging and application data and are stored at a location chosen or controlled by the user on their device.

SMSGuard does not sell your personal messaging data.

SMSGuard does not use SMS/MMS message content, sender or recipient phone numbers, contact information, or Google Drive backup contents for advertising or marketing purposes.

SMSGuard does not upload SMS/MMS message content, sender or recipient phone numbers, or your contact list to SMSGuard-owned servers or Firebase backend services for community spam reporting or spam analysis.

When you explicitly use Google Drive backup, selected backup information is transferred to your own Google Drive account through Google services.

Third-party services used by the app, including Google AdMob, Firebase, Google Play Billing, Google Play Integrity, Google authentication services, and Google Drive API, may process technical, advertising, analytics, purchase, authentication, diagnostic, or security information as necessary to provide their respective services and according to their own privacy policies.

11. Permissions Used by SMSGuard

SMSGuard may request permissions depending on your device, Android version, and the features you choose to use.

12. Google Account Authorization

When you choose Google Drive backup or restore, SMSGuard may ask you to select or authorize a Google account.

Google handles the account authorization process.

SMSGuard uses the resulting authorization only to access its own Google Drive app-specific data area for backup and restore operations.

SMSGuard does not use Google Drive authorization to read emails, contacts, photos, documents, or other unrelated Google account content.

13. Data Deletion

You can delete locally stored SMSGuard data by:

Clearing application data or uninstalling SMSGuard removes locally stored application data from the device, subject to Android system behavior.

Google Drive backups are separate from local application data. Clearing application data or uninstalling the application may not delete backups already stored in your Google Drive app-specific data area.

Users may use available Google Drive or Google account controls to manage or remove app-specific Google Drive data.

14. Data Retention

Locally stored data remains on the device until it is deleted by the user, removed by an application feature, cleared through Android settings, or removed when the application is uninstalled, subject to Android system behavior.

Some blocked-message data may be automatically deleted according to retention settings selected by the user.

Google Drive backup data may remain in the user's Google Drive app-specific data area until it is deleted through applicable Google Drive, Google account, or SMSGuard controls.

15. Children's Privacy

SMSGuard is not intended for children under the minimum age required by applicable law.

SMSGuard does not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.

SMSGuard is designed to process sensitive messaging information locally whenever possible.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect application data and reduce unauthorized access, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.

Users should understand that no method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

17. Third-Party Services

SMSGuard may rely on third-party services provided by Google and other platform providers to support features such as advertising, analytics, purchases, application integrity, authentication, and Google Drive backup.

Use of those services may also be governed by their respective privacy policies and terms.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the application, legal requirements, or third-party services.
